Roulette - do systems really work?

The "system" I use isnt really a system. You pick 6 numbers, taking your odds to 1/6 (forget the zeros) Now the 6 numbers you picked should be together on the wheel. By doing this you have seleceted 1/6 of the wheel. The most I won is 1900, I started with 40 dollars. This isnt a guarunteed win but betting on a section of the wheel instead of random numbers seems to work for me.
