Why are pelvic floor excercises important during pregnancy?

The purpose of doing it in pregnancy is to prevent pee from coming out when you cough sneeze or laugh which may happen when you reach the third trimester because the baby constricts how much the bladder can hold. It will also prevent tearing during labour if you do them, then of course after labour to get back into shape down there.
