Please give me your advise on pain relievers and pregnancy...?

I am 16 weeks pregnant and I have a serve sore throat. I called my Doctor yesterday and she said it was fine if I took Tylenol. I am nervous to take it or use cough drops but read that continued coughing can maybe cause a miscarriage. For you that are or have been pregnant did you are do you take Tylenol?
