Jailbreak = M battery drainage + lag? Avoidable?

Since I jailbroke my iPod Touch 3G 8GB, I've been experiencing mad lag and m battery drainage. Does anyone know of any way these are avoidable? Apparently, OpenSSH causes the battery drainage. Cydia says it's not, only does when I use it. Even when I'm not on wifi, my battery still gets drained, though. Any solutions to either?
