Are people helpful when no one is looking?

There's a t.v. show "What Would You Do" that examines how people react to awkward social situations, basically a test of ethics. If there were an online version, would people be generally helpful, uninvolved, or add fuel to the fire?? My personal experience is that people generally try to help others....sometimes it is really hard to pick a best answer! It's great to have an anonymous stranger take the time to care, right? However, the written word is easily misinterpreted (usually negatively) and there's little accountability for fueling the fire or being mean on forums...or chiming in just to get attention (or, in this case, points). Sometimes people are really mean, obnoxious, or angry...are they like that in person, too, or are they helpful and kind when people can see their behavior? What do you think?
